Uganda U23 3×3 team departs for World Cup

Team Uganda for the U23 FIBA 3×3 World Cup has set off to compete at the event in China.

The team departed Entebbe International Airport 6PM aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

It is the second time Uganda will be featuring in this event having finished 12th out of 20 teams at last year’s campaign.

UCU Lady Canons’ pair of Sarah Ageno and Abey Priscilla is joined by JKL Lady Dolphins’
Ritah Imanishimwe and Angels Basketball Club’s Melissa Akullu to represent Uganda.

The team is led by national 3×3 coordinator Hamza Nyambogo who believes they have all it takes to perform.

“We expect to do better than we did last year. We have prepared well and the girls are ready to compete,” Nyambogo said before the team’s departure.

Imanishimwe played at last year’s world cup and her experience will come in handy.

Uganda is placed in pool C alongside Germany, Romania, Iran and Mongolia.

The world showpiece set to run from the 2nd to the 6th October 2019 will be hosted in Lanzhou China.

The team will play it’s first games on October 3rd against Romania and Germany.
