Pools announced – UGANDA TO Participate In the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier 2019

SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) –  8 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams will compete for the last 3 tickets – in each category – for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2019 at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 4-5, 2019.

Hosts Puerto Rico were seeded in men’s Pool B alongside FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2018 winners Australia, Czech Republic and Romania. 


The seeding is conducted automatically according to the FIBA 3×3 Federation Ranking of each national federation at the February 1, 2019 cut-off date. As per FIBA 3×3 regulations (Book 6), teams are seeded as follows:

FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2016 bronze medalists France will face Germany, Italy and FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2017 winners Nigeria in men’s Pool A.

The pool winners are directly qualified for the Semi-Finals and the 2nd- and 3rd-placed teams in each pool will play a Quarter-Final with the winners advancing to the Semi-Finals. The winners of the Semi-Finals will be qualified directly to the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2019, while the losers of the Semi-Finals will play a final game for the final spot in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup. 2019, which takes place in Amsterdam, Netherlands on June 18-23.

In the women’s category, hosts Puerto Rico were placed in a tough group with Asia Cup 2018 bronze medalists Australia as the team to beat. Uganda and Estonia complete Pool A.

Last, but not least, the 2-time FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup winners Mali will meet FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup defending champs New Zealand and basketball powerhouses Brazil and Spain in Pool B.
