KIU Titans defeat Warriors to level series

KIU 69-59 Warriors

KIU Titans defeated Warriors 69-59 to take game two and level their quarter final series Monday night.

Having struggled for offence in game one last Friday, the Kansanga outfit greatly improved with their season on the line to force a decider.

Guard Denis Balungu delivered on the night with a man of the match performance that saw him pour in a game high 22 points and collect 14 boards.

KIU started well and led 07-04 early on before Warriors pegged them back to see the first quarter ending 14-all.

The second quarter was equally contested with nothing seeming to separate the two sides but the Titans went into the long break with a 2-point advantage (34-32).

With Warriors’ Saidi Amisi accumulating 3 fouls in the first half and Samad Imran hobbling off injured, the Titans capitalized and led 47-43 after the third quarter.

The fourth quarter totally belonged to Brian Wathum’s charges with Michael Buzangu, who was Warriors’ most lively offensive option, fouling out.

Michael Bwanga had 15 points and 7 rebounds while Nunda Kiryowa came off the bench to score 9 points and pick 6 rebounds.

Buzangu’s 15 points and Stanley Mugerwa’s 11 were not enough and Warriors will now have to prepare for the third and final game of the series on Saturday.

Rangers sweep Lady Marines

KIU 69-55 Nkumba

KIU Rangers became the first team to reach the semifinal stage in this year’s post season after a 69-55 game two victory against Nkumba Lady Marines Monday night at Lugogo Indoor stadium.

Ninette Uwineza used 35 minutes to post 25 points and 16 rebounds for Julius Lutwama’s Rangers as they completed the clean sweep.

Having won game one by a single point last Friday, the Kansanga outfit got the good start in game two and led for the bigger part of the game.

Game one player of the game Ines Kanyamunza chipped in with 15 points and 2 rebounds while Brenda Aujat recorded a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Brenda Ekone’s 18 points and Fina Busingye’s team high 20 were not enough for Timothy Odeke’s team to force a decider.

The Rangers will now wait to play the winner of the series between defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins and Angels Basketball Club.
