Junior Gazelles, Silverbacks storm ,Tanzania A head of the FIBA ZONE V U18 PRELIMINARIES

FIBA Zone V Nations Cup for U18 Men and Women will be finally be held from 17th to 22th June 2018 in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania). This competition is qualifying for the Africa Nations Championships for U18 2018 (FIBA Africa U18 Men & Women 2018).

These competitions are the Zone Championships for U18 category. It will qualify to the Africa Nations Championships for U18 Men and Women (FIBA Africa U18 Men & Women 2018). The team placed first following the Men competition will qualify to the 21th FIBA Africa U18 (To be determined, Mali). The team placed first following the Women competition will qualify to the 15th FIBA Africa U18 Women (To be determined, Mozambique).

The U18 National Basketball Team ‘Silverbacks and Gazelles’ coaches’ sole target is to defend the FIBA Zone V Nations championship for both U18 boys and girls slated to kick off on Sunday 17th, June 2018 in Dares- salaam,Tanzania.

“We have a strong team selected from more than seven schools in the country and we have prepared them to the best aiming as it will be the only path for the FIBA Africa U18.” Said Mavita Ali, the head coach Girls Gazelles

The process and preparations for the championship started months ago and the squad had about thirty player to whom they trimmed to get cream of final twelve.
“the team we selected is tough,we have groomed them more ready for victory as we know last time we hosted but all in all our target is to make it to Nations championship”, hinted, Nick Natuhereza, the head coach Boys ( Silverbacks).

David Katende NCS assistant general secretary administration who flagged off the team advised the travelling contingent to keep discipline.
” FUBA have been admired all over the world where they go for any competition which gives good reputation to the Pearl of Africa (Uganda) in that we also want you to make sound and you come back victorious” said Katende

Uganda heads into the tournament as the defending champion in all category having claimed it in 2016 in Kampala, Uganda as the hosts.

Uganda in the Boys category will have to battle it out with the hosts Tanzania, South Sudan and Rwanda where the top team will qualify to the 21th FIBA Africa U18 that will be held in Bamako, Mali from 17th- 26th August 2018.

Meanwhile the Girls Gazelles (Uganda) will compete for the single slot against The hosts Tanzania and Rwanda if they are to make it to the FIBA Africa U18 15th edition in Maputo, Mozambique come 29th July to 05th August 2018.

Team Uganda ( Gazelles and Silverbacks) will be captained by Agatha Kamwada and Rajab Mpiima for girls and boys respectively.

Team Uganda was flagged off on the 14th June 2018 at Uganda Olympic Committee by NCS assistant General Secretary David Katende Ssemakula.
