FIBA 3X3 Africa Cup Qualifiers: Women, Men Uganda Team Makes It To Final Tournament

Ugandan teams qualified for FIBA 3X3 Africa cup final tournament after securing good position in the FIBA 3X3 Africa cup qualifiers held in Antananarivo, Madagascar from Saturday 28th up to Sunday 29th, July 2018.
Uganda who sent Women and Men team all come out effectively. Men team finished in the 4th position after playing five games collecting 79 points.
Uganda men team registered two wins coming on the first day against Tanzania and Seychelles with 21-06 and 16-08 respectively.
In the last three games, Uganda fell in the hands of Egypt (17-15), DRC ( 19-16) and finally to Madagascar ( 15-11).
Generally in the men’s affair, Egypt sat on summit with 102 points followed by Madagascar with 93 who were tied in points with DRC with Uganda coming 4th. Tanzania sat at the bottom and Seychelles 5th at the end of the qualifiers.
Meanwhile in the women affairs, Uganda finished 3rd to earn a place in the final tournament to be held in Togo.
Uganda women team played to a win less group games losing to 09-12 to DRC and Madagascar with the last game against Egypt also ending in a loss by 21-14.
Uganda lost to DRC in the semi finals by 16-15 which meant they had to play in fight for the 3rd place as it was the only route for her to reach the promised land which came true as they defeated Madagascar by 14-12.
Egypt emerged the overall winner in the qualifiers defeating DRC in the finals by 21-14.  In the first ever event of FIBA 3X3 cup in Africa held in Lome Togo last year, Uganda Men finished 8th overall after winning one game in three that is 12-09 to Gambia and a lose of 01-18 to Mali and quarter final game in the hands of Egypt by 21-16. In women’s affair, Jamila Nansikombi led Uganda to a much deserved bronze medal when she topped all with 44 points in only 6 games which helped Uganda finish 3rd losing on game which came against Nigeria in the semi finals.
At the end of the qualifiers held in Madagascar, Egypt, Madagascar, DRC and Uganda qualified in the men’s category while in the women affairs, Egypt, DRC and Uganda qualified to the FIBA 3X3 Africa cup final tournament scheduled 09th- 11th November 2018 in Togo.
Qualifiers continue to confirm other nations in Benin starting in August 2018.
