LAUNCH OF THE FUBA-National Basketball League 2018

The 2018 FUBA – National Basketball League (NBL) season is set to tip-off this Saturday at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

Of the six games on the card on Saturday, the official opening match will see defending champions City Oilers take on Betway Power, both sides pose with five league championships.

The league first round will run until June 29th before the second round commence two days later, if we are to go with the released fixture.

This season’s league was launched on Thursday at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) offices in Lugogo, Kampala, an event that was attended by FUBA officials.
Addressing the press on the day, FUBA president Ambrose Tashobya, said that there is much anticipation as the new league is set to go underway.

“This year’s league returns bigger and better, it’s going to be an exciting season and we are very grateful in the first place to have a sponsor on board.”
It should be noted that Tusker lite is now the official beer sponsor of the league, they sponsored the federation with Sh100m – The amount will equally be divided between the league and the 3*3 local activities throughout the year.
On how important this package will be, Tashobya revealed:

“We struggled last season and all of the setbacks we got were mostly finance-related. F

or starters, we competed for venues (MTN arena) with other federations and other event organizers but we hope that all will be well.”It was also revealed that the top flight league has taken a new shape as the restructuring has left the NBL having a separate organizing   committee from that of the lower divisions.
